july is BIPOC mental health awareness month
Formally established in 2008, July became the Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States, with goals to: (1) increase awareness to the unique mental health challenges that underrepresented groups face in the United States, and (2) increase access to mental health treatments and services for minority and underrepresented groups. This national awareness month was established by the U.S. House of Representatives, sponsored by Rep. Albert Wynn [D-MD], and cosponsored by a large bipartisan group. Bebe Moore Campbell was an author, journalist, teacher, and mental health advocate who dedicated much of her work to shed light on the mental health needs of the Black community and other POC communities.
