SERIES CURRICULUM + STRUCTURE

Part 1: The Postpartum Experience
(Wednesday April 10 @ 7p to 8:30p CT)
Discover tools and insights around the diverse and intense postpartum experience. From better understanding experiences like postpartum anxiety and depression to navigating this intense time, this first session is designed to empower current and future moms to define (or redefine) this first, formative chapter.

  • Education & tools on postpartum anxiety, depression, baby blues, etc

  • Discussing the intense initial demands on a mom’s body, mind, time, and relationships

  • Guided individual reflection and prompts to either prepare for or process your own experiences

  • Facilitated small group breakouts to foster connection and support

Part 2: The Identity Shift
(Wednesday April 24 @ 7p to 8:30p CT)
Explore the profound shifts that occur in identity, relationships, and priorities as a mom - along with understanding common mental health challenges in this chapter. Whether you’re a future or current mom, this will be dedicated time and space to more intentionally prepare for or reflect on your transformation of motherhood.

  • Education & tools on identity change, societal comparison, and common mental health hurdles during this time

  • Discussing the demands of change on careers, relationships & priorities

  • Guided individual reflection and prompts to either prepare for or process your own identity change

  • Facilitated small group breakouts to foster connection and support

Part 3: Lasting Peace & Power
(Wednesday May 8 @ 7p to 8:30p CT)
We’ll close out the series by diving deep into the constant complexity and challenge that is motherhood, while forging a path toward peace and power along the ups-and-downs of the journey.

  • Education & tools on forging lasting mental clarity, peace, and power in the ups-and-downs of motherhood

  • Discussing the complexity of gender roles, mental load, and rediscovering time for self-care and prioritization

  • Guided individual reflection and prompts to forge your own foundation of mental wellness

SERIES FACILITATORS (and fellow mamas!)

fernanda barceló

Ferny Barcelo is a psychotherapist and yoga & meditation instructor, whose experience in the mental health and wellness field spans over a decade. In 2018, she founded her own private practice, Mind Body Peace, where she specializes in mindfulness-based therapy, working with women in Austin and beyond. Prior to Mind Body Peace, Ferny began her counseling career at Austin Mindfulness Center, where she spent nearly five years specializing in ACT and mindfulness-based therapy.

Ferny is a huge advocate for women's health, dedicated to guiding individuals towards personal integrity through a blend of yoga, mindfulness, and psychotherapy. She focuses on guiding her clients through challenging life transitions, relationship issues, and career shifts, as well as working with new mothers facing the challenges of life postpartum. Ferny has a deep love for bringing connection to her community, from organizing women's groups, workshops, and retreats to large-scale yoga events and panels.

Ferny’s training and education includes: Compassionate Mind (CFT) training led by Laura Silberstein-Tirch, PsyD and Dennis Tirch, PhD; ACT-intensive training led by Steven C. Hayes; 500RYT Yoga Teacher Training under renowned teachers such as Janet Stone, Ana Forrest, Jason Crandell, Gioconda Parker, and Erin Dudley; Masters in Counseling at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas; and a Bachelor’s in Psychology at the University of Texas San Antonio.

Originally from Mexico City and raised in Laredo, Texas, Ferny has called Austin home for nearly 15 years. Embracing a life of balance, in her free time she enjoys gardening, practicing yoga, and exploring all Austin has to offer with her family.

gloria chan packer

Gloria Chan Packer is an international mental wellness educator, a TED speaker, and an experienced corporate leader. In 2018, Gloria founded Recalibrate, a workplace mental wellness provider that’s worked with 20,000+ employees at client organizations worldwide.

Prior to Recalibrate, Gloria led an established career in management consulting as a senior leader specializing in technology strategy and implementation for various Fortune 500 clients in cable, healthcare, financial services, energy, and nonprofit industries. Gloria founded Recalibrate after an unexpected medical battle led her to re-examine her relationship with stress, inspiring her to improve mental health education for fellow busy professionals by promoting science over stigma.

Gloria’s TED Talk on burnout and boundaries was one of the most viewed talks of 2022, garnering over 2 million views. Gloria’s work has additionally been featured by Business InsiderSXSW, the TED Business podcast, the How to Be a Better Human podcast, the Sunday Scaries podcast, and more.

Gloria’s training and education includes: various continuing education trainings with Deep Eddy Psychotherapy, Mindfulness Teacher Training from The Mindfulness Center; Executive Education in Corporate Strategy from Columbia Business School; and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with dual majors in Corporate Finance and the Business Honors Program from the University of Texas at Austin.

Gloria enjoys gardening, good food with good friends, spending time outdoors, playing with design, and living life in Austin, Texas with her husband, son, and two pups.

FAQs

  • Can I participate from any city? Yes! We decided to make this series virtual both to accommodate convenience for moms as well as to allow moms from different cities and locations to join us!

  • Can I participate if I’m pregnant for the first time? Yes, we have specifically designed our series to cater to both expectant and existing moms.

  • Can I participate if I’m already a mom? Yes, we have specifically designed our series to cater to both existing and expectant moms.

  • What if I have to miss a session? We will be recording and sharing all sessions, as well as providing a private Slack where you can catch up and connect with our attendees and facilitators in between sessions. Access to session recordings and Slack will remain available to all registrants for 90 days after the series.

  • Can I get a refund if I change my mind? We will honor refund requests submitted via email on or before March 25, 2024.

  • Will there be content specific to modern families, such as single moms or stepmoms? No. Because this is our first release of our series, we were limited in keeping our scope broad and will not have content that is specific to the single mom or stepmom experience. However, we still hope moms in modern families will consider joining us, and we hope to include more specific curated content in future iterations of our series.
